Syogi pieces by Shogetsu Mikurajima-hon-tsuge (real Mikurajima boxwood) Itame (curved grain) Te-bori (hand engraved) Ryoko script Shogi pieces.
The artist Komashi 'Shogetsu' is a craftsman who learned the art of making Shogi pieces studying under Komashi Fugetsu who is regarded as one of the top 5 modern masters.
He is a promising craftsman as he has brushed up his skill in making and sculping a number of Japanese wooden doorplates. As he is yet widely known, not so many Shotsuki's Shogi pieces are found in the market. However, we are so fascinated with his beautiful artifacts with flowing shape and decide to sell his two set of Shogi pieces, one set with Minase-sho Style and the one set with Ryoko-sho Style.
These Shogi pieces are Shogetsu's 2nd work pieces and are engraved on the bottom of 1 Fu (pawn) with 'Dai-ni-saku' (Work No. 2).
'Ryoko-sho' is a script based on the calligraphy of Maki Ryoko, a calligrapher of the latter Edo Period, and with its clear, slender characters is a highly popular script, regardless of professional or amateur status.
