The artist Komashi 'Shogetsu' is a craftsman who learned the art of making Shogi pieces studying under Komashi Fugetsu who is regarded as one of the top 5 modern masters.
He is a promising craftsman as he has brushed up his skill in making and sculping a number of Japanese wooden doorplates. As he is yet widely unknown, not so many Shogetsu's Shogi pieces are found in the market. However, we are so fascinated with his beautiful artifacts with flowing shape and decide to sell his one set of Minase-sho Style Shogi pieces.
This Shogi pieces is Shogetsu's 33th work pieces and is engraved on the bottom of 1 Fu (pawn) with 'Dai-sanjusan-saku' (Work No.33).
'Minase-sho' is a script invented by Mr. Minase Kanenari, a well-known Noh writer, featuring serenely styled relatively large characters. It is also said to have been favored by those with power during the Edo Period, such as Tokugawa Ieyasu, and is an extremely popular script.
