This is a rare Japanese Ternstroemia Go bowl that is rarely seen because it is rarely on the market.
This time we will sell a limited number of 2 sets for Go stones up to size 40.
The wood color of the Japanese Ternstroemia is reddish-brown and bright as shown in the image. Its distinctive characteristics are, the annual rings are finely packed, and the wood is hard.
It feels heavy when you hold it in your hands.
Since the Japanese Ternstroemia grows straight and spreads its branches and leaves in a fan shape, it has been prized as a Japanese landscaping tree since the Edo period (1603~1867) and is therefore known as a 'King of Garden Trees' along with the pine, the inumaki (fern pine) and others of the so-called 'Edo Goboku (5 trees)'.
It is also known that Japanese Ternstroemia was used as the building material for Shuri Castle in Okinawa.
Since it is not widely available as a wood material, a Go bowl made of Japanese Ternstroemia can be said to be a rare item. Of course it is beautiful, but it is recommended for those who are looking for a rare Go bowl.
These Go bowls have a little unevenness in color. Since one of the vessels has a closed crack, it is offered at a translated price. There is no problem in normal use.
A written certificate of his artwork is enclosed in a box. A branding iron seal that proves that this is the artwork of Mr. Takashi NISHIKAWA (Registration No. 115).(This is a sample image.)
